Change is constant in Dubai

Our mission is to improve the flow of urban life. To capture the essence of urbanization, we bring you stories of people from 17 cities. The life of professional sports is characterized by constant travel to different metropolises of the world. Golfer Mikko Ilonen shares his view on Dubai.

“Since early 2000, I’ve travelled to Dubai at least a couple of times a year. In the early days, I could drive to the golf course straight through the motorway and the desert with no difficulty. Now-a-days, I cannot take the same route. To get to the course, I now need to drive through at least eight roundabouts and across several bridges. Despite the change, I still feel I know my way around Dubai.

During my 15-year long career as a professional golfer, good service is something I’ve learnt to appreciate and what I’m willing to pay for when traveling. They’re starting to get the hang of it in Dubai.

When you’re on the road, smooth traffic is definitely a benefit. It starts from finding good connecting flights, arriving at the airport, getting your luggage as quickly as possible and transferring smoothly from the airport to wherever you are headed. My personal favorite is the airport in the Finnish city of Kittilä located in the Arctic Circle but the ones in Helsinki and Copenhagen are not bad either.”
